Abia: Otti Declares War on Insecurity with ₦3.4bn Fund

Governor Alex Otti has officially launched the Otti ₦3.4bn Abia Security Fund, declaring an all-out war on insecurity across Abia State.

During the launch event in Umuahia, Otti revealed that the fund backed by the Abia Security Trust Fund Law 2024 is a public-private initiative designed to strengthen the state’s security infrastructure and protect lives and property.

The ₦3.4bn Abia Security Fund aims to tackle rising insecurity with support from political and business leaders nationwide.

Notably, Chief Adedeji Adeleke pledged ₦500 million. Likewise, Chief Arthur Eze donated ₦200 million, while Chief Innocent Chukwuma of Innoson Motors offered ₦100 million.

These contributions follow the enactment of the Abia State Security Trust Fund Law, 2024.

According to Otti, the law empowers the state to collect, manage, and disburse funds for security infrastructure.

Consequently, the governor described the fund as a vital lifeline for his long-term security strategy.

He explained that the money would help acquire surveillance systems, logistics, and tools for security personnel.

Furthermore, he emphasized that government alone cannot solve the insecurity problem.

Therefore, he called on citizens to remain alert and involved in protecting their neighborhoods.

Otti also recalled the insecurity he inherited when he assumed office. He said attacks, kidnappings, and armed robberies plagued many communities.

However, he noted that interventions like Operation Crush have started producing positive results. Even so, he made it clear that the government’s efforts must continue without pause.

Meanwhile, key political figures showed up in support. Minister of State for Labour Nkeiruka Onyejeocha described the initiative as “a unifying mission.”

In addition, she commended President Tinubu’s support and urged Nigerians not to politicize security matters.

Former Minister Uche Ogah also pledged to contribute monthly for one year, underscoring the nonpartisan nature of the effort.

Moreover, Chief Stanley Obiamaraije, chair of the fund’s board, explained that the public-private model would empower security forces.

He added that with proper funding, they could improve operations and respond faster to emergencies.

In the end, Otti expressed gratitude to all contributors. He promised to ensure transparency and effective use of the funds.

With this major boost, the governor hopes to make Abia one of the safest states in Nigeria.
