Adamawa Govt shares expired baby milk to IDPs, prisons, warders

There are indications in Yola, Adamawa State capital that apart from the current outbreak of Lassa fever experienced and claiming many lives in the country especially in the neighborhood state of Taraba, citizens in Adamawa may be affected with another deadly disease soon if care is not taken.

This is sequel to the recent discovery of an expired “FRISOMUM GOLD MILD MILK” distributed to IDPs in Fufore, Prisons and to many willing individuals. 

Associations of various group in the state capital are seen rushing to the State Ministry of Women Affairs as well as the state secretariat of the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Wednesday and Thursday collecting the expired milk products

The milk with inscription “FRISOMUM GOLD”  was dramatically scampered for at the State Secretariat of the APC by members, women and political thugs, who claimed were given by the Commissioner to cushion the effect of the poor health situation at the IDP’s camp but were allegedly diverted and hoarded until the product get expired.

 A visit to the APC Secretariat Indicated that cartons of the expired products were freely distributed mindless of the expiring date which clearly shows at the bottom of the container as “BB 01-2016 with production date of 01-2014.

 A beneficial, Mallam Umaru Isa said” oga, your so call expired FRISOMUM GOLD milk no bi Nigeria  concerns, the milk no go any effect for my belle”.

Also Bilkisu Sani Abass, a pregnant woman noted that, she believes in APC-led Government and could not see their reason to send expired milk to be distributed to Nigerians especially some of us who are expectant mothers.

While stressing further, Bilkisu Abass noted: “Look at the level of the container which reads, ‘The FRISOMUM GOLD is important nutrients to support the increased nutritional demands during pregnancy and lactation and must be consumed”.

Our correspondent discovered that the Milk product was launched for distribution since August, 2015 by Maryam Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow at the specialist Hospital Yola.

 But the distribution attracts attention of some concern citizens of the state.

A pharmacist in the state capital, Ezekiel Lawson blamed the Government of wicked attitude of hoarding the product meant for public consumption for more than for months without distribution.

“Our Government is wicked to have hoard the product to this extend without sharing it, this attitude is actually evil and is an offence that we can be sued the Government”. He said

However, at the State Ministry of Women Affairs were the product are largely distributed, efforts to locate the Commissioner Aliyu Bello Tolla proved abortive as was said to be attending a very crucial meeting that might  not be unconnected with the expires milk.

 But sources from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry told our Correspondent that the milk was given by red cross on their instruction to wait till further instruction on what to do, a reason why the product was kept undistributed to this extend.

Resource coming from the ministry that consultations were widely made before the distribution, expert assured them of consumption from now before the end of February.

The BB 1-216 is having a guarantee of three months before it can be total harmful.

Similarly, the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Fatima Atiku Abubakar said she hasn’t seen, nor anybody ever briefed her on the expired “FRISOMUM GOLD Milk, adding that the Ministry is stepping into the issue with the view of ascertaining the situation to avoid any untold disaster in the State.
