The Adamawa Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) on recent interview in Yola said that the recent attacks by herdsmen in some parts of the state has claimed eight lives of teachers in the state.
Mr Rodney Nathan, Chairman of the state wing made this known while briefing newsmen men in Yola.
Nathan said that the crises had lead to displacement of hundreds of teachers from the flashpoint areas.
The chairman urged the Federal government to stop the killings and bring the perpetrators to book.
He added that such would serve as deterrence to criminals.
He commended Gov. Mohammed Bindow of Adamawa for constituting a high profile committee of enquiry with the aim to bringing perpetrators of such dastardly acts to book.
He encouraged the governor to match words with actions.
” In the recent crisis that engulfed some parts of the state, we lost eight teachers.
“We lost one Headmaster in Damsa, three teachers in Numan, three in Song and one in Madagali.
” We do not have the adequate number of those displaced but are over a hundred, ‘ Nathan said.
The chairman appealed to the people of the state to uphold tolerance towards a peaceful coexistence.
According to him, without peace, there will be no development, no one can go about his normal social life.
He further advised teachers who indulge in to taking drugs to desist.
According to him, a teacher should be a role model to every child. He described drug addiction by teachers as unethical, adding that such was inimical to moulding the character of the children.
