ADC Appoints Ex-Governor, Targets APC Stronghold in Jigawa
DDM News

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially launched its operations in Jigawa State with the appointment of former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Mahmud Gumel, as the new state coordinator.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that this development signals a major political shift in the state, as the ADC intensifies its efforts to build grassroots support and offer a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
During his inauguration, Gumel emphasized the party’s dedication to building a just and equitable society.
He called on the people of Jigawa and all Nigerians to unite with the ADC in creating a better future for the nation.
He described the ADC as a viable platform for disillusioned citizens seeking transparent leadership and responsible governance.
According to him, the party’s coalition is gaining momentum nationwide, with new political actors and groups joining its ranks.
Gumel stated that the party’s growth is rooted in its vision of inclusiveness and democratic reform.
He urged party members to avoid insulting public figures, stating that the ADC stands for constructive political engagement rather than character attacks.
“Our goal is not to insult leaders, but to focus on creating a better system,” Gumel said.
He also called on Nigerian youths to remain prayerful, hopeful, and supportive of the coalition movement, assuring them that the ADC is ready to bring about meaningful change.
In a significant move to strengthen unity within the party, the former State Executive Council, led by Hon. Kabiru Hussaini, stepped down from their positions.
This decision also dissolved all executives at the 27 local government areas across the state, allowing the new coalition leadership to take full control.
Hussaini described the decision as a sacrifice for the growth of the party, stating it was made to allow fresh ideas and perspectives to thrive under Gumel’s leadership.
Prominent political figures have begun rallying around the ADC. Former House of Representatives member Hon. Bashir Adamu, a PDP stalwart, praised the party’s restructuring and said the new leadership is a welcome development.
Adamu emphasized the need for collaboration and strategic planning to challenge the APC’s dominance in the upcoming 2027 elections.
Observers see the ADC’s new momentum in Jigawa as part of a larger national effort to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape and offer voters a credible third force.
