Islamic therapy institute alerts Nigeria’s government to quackery in alternative medicine practice

Provost, International Institute of Islamic Therapy, IIIT, in Abuja, Nigeria, Shaykh Abu MazeedatilKhayr Bn Saeed, on Saturday, told the public that government must step in to regulate the practice of alternative and complementary medicine.
He made the call at a convocation ceremony for 58 graduates in therapeutic medicine.
calling specifically to President Bola Tinubu, the Provost of the institute said that government must regulate the practice of alternative and complementary medicine in Nigeria to prevent quackery.
He made the call while also appealing to the public to assist the Institute in the development of alternative medicine.
“We thank the Federal government of Nigeria for encouraging the practice of both alternative and complementary medicine in Nigeria.
“However, we wish they could do more by regulating the practice to checkmate quackery.
We therefore call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to regulate the practice of Alternative and complementary Medicine, the cupping therapy in particular.
“We appeal to members of the public to assist the Institute in whatever way and manner.
IIIT says that it has graduated 400 practitioners of the trade since 2017, year of its inception.
The graduates were encouraged to contribute positively to society and embrace the challenges ahead.
The ceremony had a theme focusing on the importance of Tawheed and the dangers of Shirk in healing practices.
The graduates were reminded of the diversity of cultures and backgrounds represented in their class and were urged to cherish and respect this diversity as they enter the broader society.
The Governor of the Class of 2023 emphasized the importance of using their knowledge and values to make a lasting impact and contribute to the growth and development of future generations.
