ADC condemns Tinubu administration’s attempt to suppress protest
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has vehemently criticized the President Bola Tinubu-led administration for attempting to stifle a nationwide hunger protest scheduled to commence on August 1, 2024.
The party’s National Chairman, Dr. Ralph Nwosu, expressed disappointment and outrage over the government’s plan to deploy security forces and disburse public funds to thwart the protest.
Speaking in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during the commissioning of the party’s new state chapter office and Youth Development Centre, Nwosu questioned the administration’s motives, asking, “Why are you scared of protest? You’re telling people who are hungry not to protest? And you’re empowering security apparatuses with every arsenal to stop that protest, moving money from legislators to everywhere, the executive members of the cabinet have been giving money out to stop the protest.”
Nwosu emphasized that the government’s actions are undemocratic and dictatorial, querying, “Why can’t you bring the money for people to buy food to eat? Is this a democracy or dictatorship?”
The ADC Chairman reiterated his party’s commitment to moving Nigeria forward and restoring citizens’ confidence in the country.
He highlighted the need to stop the abuse and rape of the country, stressing that billions of dollars stolen in the last 24 years could have bettered the lives of citizens and prevented Nigerians from fleeing the country in search of better opportunities.
Nwosu urged party members to embark on an aggressive membership drive, emphasizing the need for the party’s presence to be felt in every part of the country to achieve their goal of taking over the country’s leadership in 2027.
The state chairman of the party, Mr. Dick Udom, expressed the party’s readiness to win the state gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections in 2027, while the newly appointed member of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Godwin Umontuen, emphasized the party’s steadfastness in advocating for good governance in Nigeria.
About End Bad Governance Protest
_End Bad Governance Protest: Nigerians Demand Change_
A wave of protests is sweeping across Nigeria, as citizens demand an end to bad governance and call for accountability from their leaders. The End Bad Governance Protest, slated to begin on August 1, 2024, is a nationwide movement that seeks to address the country’s pressing issues, including economic hardship, corruption, and poor leadership.
Organizers of the protest cite the government’s failure to provide basic amenities, such as electricity, water, and roads, despite the country’s vast resources. They also decry the high levels of corruption, which has led to the embezzlement of billions of dollars meant for development projects.
The protest comes on the heels of a worsening economic crisis, with rising inflation, unemployment, and poverty rates. Many Nigerians feel that the government has abandoned them, and that it is time for a change.
The End Bad Governance Protest has gained momentum on social media, with many Nigerians sharing their stories of hardship and frustration. The movement has also received support from civil society organizations, labor unions, and opposition political parties.
However, the government has responded to the planned protest with a heavy-handed approach, deploying security forces and attempting to intimidate organizers.
