ADC: The vehicle for a national rescue mission – David Mark
DDM News

Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, has been appointed as the acting National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape as opposition parties move to consolidate their forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Mark’s appointment was announced during a high-level meeting of the opposition coalition held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
The gathering featured key political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Governor Sule Lamido, and other prominent leaders aligned with the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria.
In his inaugural speech as acting National Chairman, Senator Mark unveiled the coalition’s decision to adopt the ADC as the umbrella platform under which various opposition groups, civil society organizations, youth movements, and political stakeholders will contest the 2027 elections.
He stated that the new coalition’s primary mission is not merely to seize power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), but to salvage Nigeria’s crumbling democratic foundations and restore the integrity of the country’s institutions.
Mark decried the current administration’s governance, accusing it of weakening democratic structures, hijacking political institutions, and descending into what he described as “civilian dictatorship.”
According to him, the government’s actions have effectively stifled opposition voices and risk reducing Nigeria to a one-party state.
He lamented that the National Assembly, once a critical pillar of democracy, has become a “mere appendage” of the executive, with legislators now playing the role of sycophants rather than defenders of the people’s interests.
Mark also highlighted the worsening insecurity across Nigeria, stating that the unchecked killings by bandits and kidnappers reflect the government’s failure to protect its citizens.
He accused the administration of prioritizing electoral calculations over the welfare of ordinary Nigerians, many of whom are now plunged into hunger and poverty.
Highlighting the collective resolve of the coalition, Mark declared that the ADC would serve as the vehicle for a national rescue mission.
He promised that the party would be governed by democratic values, uphold internal party discipline, and embrace inclusivity by ensuring equal participation of all Nigerians — regardless of age, gender, region, or status.
“The ADC will be a party where the North holds hands with the South, where the youth will stand equally with elders, and where women will share leadership with men,” Mark stated.
He emphasized that the coalition was not formed merely for elections, but to rebuild democratic safeguards and return power to the people.
He stressed the need to revive public trust in leadership, restore accountability, and build a nation where merit, justice, and the rule of law triumph over nepotism and impunity.
Listing the coalition’s core principles, Mark outlined a bold path focused on unity, service, compassion, transparency, and justice.
He urged Nigerians to join the movement, asserting that now is the time for patriotic citizens to act.
He concluded with a resounding declaration: “The opposition is united. The platform is ADC.
The time is now. The mission is clear, Rescue Nigeria. Rebuild Nigeria. Return power to the people.”
With the 2027 general elections approaching, political observers believe this new alignment under the ADC could reshape Nigeria’s political direction, especially as discontent continues to grow against the APC-led administration.
