Osogbo, Osun State – February 20, 2025 – Governor Ademola Adeleke directly urged citizens and political stakeholders to foster peace in the upcoming local government elections.

He emphasized the critical need for a peaceful environment on Saturday, February 22, 2025, to ensure a successful electoral process.

Moreover, the governor stressed the significance of upholding the rule of law while maintaining harmony throughout the state.

During a statewide broadcast, Governor Adeleke confidently addressed the public.

He focused on recent tensions stemming from court-sacked APC local government chairmen and councilors seeking to reclaim their positions.

These actions, which the governor described as illegal, had previously led to unrest in some areas.

However, he assured residents that peace has been restored and commended their cooperation in avoiding confrontations at local government secretariats.

“The unfortunate incidents remind us that following the rule of law is essential for maintaining peace in Osun State,” Governor Adeleke stated.

He also offered condolences to the families impacted by the unrest while commending citizens for their restraint, which helped prevent additional violence.

The governor reiterated that the judiciary remains the appropriate avenue for resolving disputes.

Governor Adeleke strongly criticized recent attempts by ousted APC officials to forcibly occupy local government offices. He labeled these actions as clear violations of established legal processes, emphasizing the need for adherence to the rule of law.

“Individuals claiming favorable court judgments must follow due legal procedures for enforcement,” he asserted. He warned against resorting to self-help, which he described as both illegal and counterproductive to the democratic process.

Additionally, Governor Adeleke clarified that the court ruling removing APC chairmen and councilors remains valid.

He emphasized that the Court of Appeal had already dismissed their appeal, thus reinforcing the legitimacy of the earlier decision.

Furthermore, he expressed confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions and praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He commended the President for his unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and respecting constitutional processes.

“We trust in President Tinubu’s democratic principles,” he stated. He acknowledged the president’s consistent respect for legal frameworks, which strengthens the nation’s governance.

As Osun State prepares for local government elections, Governor Adeleke urged all registered voters to participate actively. He also called for peace and order, ensuring a smooth and democratic electoral process.

“This election is an opportunity for us to strengthen our democracy and governance. Let us conduct ourselves peacefully to ensure a fair and transparent process,” he urged.

The governor concluded by reaffirming his administration’s dedication to good governance and peaceful coexistence.

“Osun State has remained one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, and we must continue on this path. Together, we can build on the progress of the past two years.”

The upcoming elections are seen as a critical test of democratic engagement in Osun State, with stakeholders across the political spectrum watching closely.
