AGF Urges Integration Of Reform Initiatives

The Honourable Attorney General of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has emphasised on the need to harmonize and integrate the various reform initiatives into a clearly articulated National Justice Policy.

He disclosed this Thursday in a media briefing on the forthcoming National Summit on Justice scheduled for the 8th- 10thAugust, 2017 in Abuja to be hosted by the Federal Ministry of Justice.

Special Adviser to the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice on Media and Publicity, Comrade Salihu Othman Isah disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, saying the summit is under the auspices of the Federal Justice Sector Reform Coordinating Committee (FJSRCC) chaired by erudite law Professor, Muhammad Tabiu and facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Justice.

According to Isah, the Minister explained that, the policy in broad terms is expected to set out a common vision and provide the guideline for promoting an effective justice system that guarantees the freedom of the people and socio-economic development of the nation.

AGF spokesman added that Malami affirmed that the policy is expected to clearly define Nigeria’s political philosophy with respect to justice delivery and provide a common direction for the Justice Sector Stakeholders across the nation.

“The need for a National Policy on Justice arose due to the imperative of building consensus among justice sector institutions and practitioners for the purpose of addressing collectively the various challenges confronting the justice system in the country and evolving a justice system that is fairer, more effective, accessible, efficient and responsive to the hopes and aspiration of our people”, the AGF is quoted as saying.

He continued that, “This bold initiative of the Federal Ministry of Justice will no doubt impact positively on justice delivery in the country.”

While fielding questions from newsmen, Malami said that, the whole essence of the summit is to promote a consensus that will provide a platform for a collective input that will see Nigeria work as a whole towards a common direction on all value addition process.

He therefore, solicited for the support and cooperation of all Nigerians, justice sector stakeholders and members of the press towards making the summit a huge success.

He expressed his gratitude to the development partners for their support in facilitating the process.
