Allies tried to broker Trump-Musk peace; An Epstein files allegation complicated things
DDM News

Efforts to reconcile the growing rift between U.S. President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk took a dramatic turn on Thursday when Musk made a bombshell allegation involving Jeffrey Epstein.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) learned that close allies of both Trump and Musk had been quietly negotiating behind the scenes to de-escalate tensions before Musk derailed the peace talks with a fiery social media post.
In a message posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, Musk wrote:
“Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”
This accusation shocked many in Trump’s inner circle and those familiar with the private efforts to mend the feud.
According to insiders, the post marked a tipping point, a red line that could not be walked back.
For days, Trump and Musk had clashed over differences in domestic policy, particularly over a sweeping legislative package dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
But Musk’s post shifted the dispute from political disagreement to personal attack.
Top aides in Trump’s orbit spent much of Thursday monitoring social media and exchanging updates as the situation spiraled.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to the post by downplaying Musk’s claims and framing his outburst as frustration over not getting his preferred policy priorities included in the legislation.
“This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted,” Leavitt told CNN. “The President is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again.”
As of now, Musk has not provided any evidence for his assertion that Trump appears in the sealed Epstein documents.
It remains unclear how the billionaire tech mogul would have obtained access to such sensitive material.
Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier, died in 2019 while in federal custody on sex trafficking charges, fueling widespread conspiracy theories.
The feud between Musk and Trump had been building throughout the week.
Musk, who recently completed a short-term role in the Trump administration as a special government employee, had grown increasingly vocal in his criticism of Trump’s legislative priorities.
By Thursday afternoon, the confrontation spilled fully onto social media platforms.
Trump suggested on Truth Social that Musk’s government contracts, including those tied to SpaceX , could be at risk.
In response, Musk unleashed a string of posts, accusing Trump of failed leadership, calling for his impeachment, and even threatening to decommission the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, the same vehicle that recently brought NASA astronauts home from the International Space Station.
However, after a user on X urged both sides to take a cooling-off period, Musk backed down from his Dragon threat.
“Good advice,” he posted. “Ok, we won’t decommission Dragon.”
Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman also stepped in with a public appeal for unity.
“I support @realDonaldTrump and @elonmusk and they should make peace for the benefit of our great country,” Ackman posted. “We are much stronger together than apart.”
Musk appeared to acknowledge the sentiment, replying: “You’re not wrong.”
Despite the gestures toward reconciliation, the situation remains volatile.
Behind the scenes, allies from both camps are still attempting to navigate a path toward détente.
But with the Epstein claim now in public view, many fear the damage is permanent.
One unnamed official told DDM that the entire ordeal resembles a bitter public breakup.
“It’s like a political divorce,” the source said. “We all knew it was coming. Just not this soon.”
Others indicated they had hoped to stave off any serious conflict until later in the summer, with one aide admitting, “I thought maybe August.”
Trump has yet to directly address the Epstein allegation, choosing instead to frame Musk’s rebellion as ill-timed and self-serving.
“I don’t mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
Sources familiar with Trump’s strategy suggest that the former president is weighing whether to pursue legal or administrative action against Musk’s companies, depending on how the standoff evolves.
For now, both camps appear to be digging in.
What began as a disagreement over legislative priorities has rapidly escalated into one of the most high-profile political-tech feuds in recent memory.
And with reputations, influence, and billion-dollar interests on the line, few expect this to end quietly.
