(DDM) – That the Labour Party’s governorship campaign in Anambra State reached a major turning point on Friday, October 31, as its 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, joined the party’s governorship flagbearer, Dr. George Moghalu (Ohamadike Nnewi), for a historic rally in Nnewi.

The event, held at the DCC Field, drew a massive crowd of enthusiastic supporters who defied heavy rainfall to express their unwavering loyalty to the Labour Party and its vision of reclaiming Anambra for the people.

In his address, Mr. Peter Obi praised the resilience and passion of the crowd, describing their turnout as “a powerful expression of hope, courage, and faith in a new Anambra.”

“What I have seen here today gives me absolute confidence that victory is certain,” Obi declared, to thunderous applause. “Labour is not just a political party; it is a movement built on integrity, accountability, and service.

Ndi Anambra have spoken loudly with their presence here today.”

According to DDM correspondents at the venue, the rally ground was electrified with chants of “Labour! Labour!! Labour!!!” as supporters waved party flags and sang solidarity songs, despite the rain that drenched the field.

Addressing the crowd, Dr. George Moghalu expressed optimism that the Labour Party would achieve a landslide victory in the November 8 governorship election, noting that the people’s enthusiasm reflected their desire for a fresh start.

“Labour will win convincingly,” Moghalu said. “You can feel the heartbeat of the people, their passion, their readiness for a government that works for everyone. Labour is not just a political structure; it is a people’s revolution.”

He described the warm reception he and Obi received earlier in Nnewi’s major markets, including Nkwo Nnewi and Nnewi Triangle, as a testament to the trust and confidence the people have in the Labour message.

Reacting to the heightened campaign activities of the incumbent governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, Dr. Moghalu criticized what he termed “political panic and desperation.”

“Talk is cheap,” he said. “Soludo is running up and down because he knows the people have turned against him. I thought he said he was not contesting with anybody, so why the sudden restlessness?”

The Labour Party candidate, however, emphasized that power belongs to God, stressing that the will of Ndi Anambra would prevail at the polls.

“God gives power to whom He pleases,” Moghalu continued. “And on election day, He will speak through the votes of Ndi Anambra.

No amount of intimidation, propaganda, or vote-buying will stop the people’s mandate.”

He urged supporters to remain peaceful, vigilant, and determined, while encouraging them to turn out in large numbers, cast their votes, and defend them until the final count.

As the rally came to a close, the atmosphere turned jubilant, with chants of “Ohamadike! Ohamadike!! Ohamadike!!!” echoing through the Nnewi night sky, accompanied by drumming, singing, and fireworks.

Local observers told DDM that the Labour Party rally has shifted the political momentum significantly in the Orumba and Nnewi axis, previously considered strongholds of the ruling APGA.

Political analysts believe that the presence of Peter Obi, whose grassroots influence remains strong across Anambra, could give the Labour Party a decisive edge in the upcoming election.

The rally ended with Moghalu reaffirming his commitment to restoring transparency, education, healthcare, and security in the state.

He declared, “We will rebuild Anambra together. The time to reclaim our destiny is now. The people have suffered enough, and the Labour Party is ready to give Anambra back to its true owners, the people.”

With only nine days to the November 8 election, the Nnewi rally has set the tone for what many describe as the most people-driven campaign in Anambra’s political history.
