Anambra Senators Ubah, Oduah jittery as S’Court rules today

Besides Andy Uba and Stella Oduah, others that may go home too include Anayo Nnebe (Awka), Obinna Chidoka (Idemili), Eucharia Azodo (Aguata), Lynda Ikpeazu (Onitsha, Emeka Anohu (Ihiala) and 4 others.

The three, one has gone, two still standing

As the nation anxiously awaits what may go down as landmark judgement and greatest political upset second to only what has come to be known as the “Katsina experience” in annals of the nation, comes up this morning at the Supreme Court in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Anambra state nomination list tussle, tension within the ranks of key actors-Senators Andy Ubah and Stella Oduah has reached a breaking point.

The two legislators who represent Anambra South and Anambra North senatorial zones respectively were said to have been put on judicial notice since Dec 7, 2015 by the Court of Appeal tribunal sitting in Enugu in the details of its verdict in the matter between Senator Uche Ekwunife Vs Chief Victor Umeh.

According to the Court of Appeal, Ekwunife was not a product of any known valid party primary. Incidentally she was on the same political page of ‘nomination’ with Uba and Oduah, the verdict on the legal tussle over the source and manner of their emergence was pending and fixed for today at the Supreme Court.

Senator Annie Okonkwo had dragged the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court for accepting what he saw as an invalid list of aspirants who did not participate in the authentic party primary which was duly organized, and monitored by all the relevant bodies and agencies, including the INEC.

Again, verdict was also fixed by the Supreme Court for today in the suit brought against the INEC and the PDP by the Chief Ejike Oguebego-led executive of the party in the state, on behalf of themselves and others including Chief Chris Uba who is the Anambra South Senatorial candidate for the apex court to determine who were the legal and validly nominated candidates of the party to stand for the last general elections for the party in the state.

Oguebego had in his Motion on Notice pursuant to Sec 17 of the Court of App

Act 2004 and Order 4 Rule 6 of Court of Appeal Rules 2011 seeking an order for stay of execution of the Court of Appeal verdict of Feb 6,2015 in suit ref CA/A/737/201 PDP vs Oguebego and 3 others, pending final determination of appeal brought by Oguebego and Okoye at the Supreme Court.

Oguebego and others also were seeking an order of injunction restraining the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission or any of their agents whatsoever from implementing the Court of Appeal verdict of Feb 6,2015, pending the determination of the appeal before the Supreme Court, and or any other order the court may deem necessary.

The applicants also sought an order for accelerated hearing of the appeal in order not to render the outcome a mere academic exercise.

Oguebego exco were said to be loyal to the leadership of Chief Chris Uba had in concert with party and INEC organized primaries where Chris Uba, Annie Okonkwo and John Emeka emerged the Anambra South, Central and North respectively. While Charles Odedo(Idemili), Emma Nweke(Awka), Julius Ofoma(Nnewi), Tony Offiah(Aguata) amongst others emerged candidates for the House of Representatives.

Besides Andy Uba and Stella Oduah, others that may go home too include Anayo Nnebe (Awka), Obinna Chidoka (Idemili), Eucharia Azodo (Aguata), Lynda Ikpeazu (Onitsha, Emeka Anohu (Ihiala) amongst about four others.

A positive verdict today would sweep out a whole line of political co-travelers akin to what was first witnessed in Katsina state few years ago where a whole line-up of ‘elected’ officials were swept aside vide a court verdict.

Both camps in the Anambra PDP family have remained on edge hoping for the upset to benefit them.
