Anambra Will Not Reward Disloyalty; Why Moghalu Remains The Definitive Choice For 2025
By Onyebuchi Okoye

As Anambra State marches resolutely towards the pivotal 2025 gubernatorial election, the choice before its citizens transcends partisan affiliations or transient political sentiments. What now lies at stake is not merely the question of who will sit at the helm of the state’s affairs, but the deeper interrogation of what Anambra represents in the unfolding political chronicle of Nigeria. This moment demands discernment, clarity of purpose, and an unwavering commitment to values that define the people’s collective identity and aspirations.
Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, who once commanded hope as a renowned economist and academic, has increasingly alienated himself from the pulse of the people through actions and utterances that have cast aspersions on revered figures and undermined the sensibilities of Ndi Anambra. His public disparagement of Mr. Peter Obi—an illustrious son of the soil and an enduring symbol of transformative governance—remains a profound betrayal that still resonates deeply within the consciousness of the people.
In a widely condemned essay penned in 2022, Governor Soludo took an unprovoked swipe at Mr. Obi’s presidential aspiration, declaring in unequivocal terms that “he knows he can’t and won’t win.” But rather than present a reasoned critique, Soludo descended into vitriol, dismissing Mr. Obi’s widely acknowledged achievements as “worthless” and likening his support base to “Hitler in the making.” Such inflammatory rhetoric was not merely unbecoming of a state leader—it betrayed a calculated effort to vilify and delegitimize a national movement personified by Obi: one built on integrity, accountability, and a vision of a new Nigeria.
But words were only the beginning. Governor Soludo’s actions have since revealed a political realignment that places him in direct opposition to the ideological convictions of the vast majority of Ndi Anambra. His recent endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 presidency—barely two years into the current administration—is nothing short of a strategic maneuver to sabotage the political resurgence of Peter Obi and dismantle the grassroots momentum that emanated from Anambra during the 2023 general elections. In aligning with the establishment, Soludo has traded the progressive hopes of his people for personal ambition.
In contrast, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Chief Dr. George Moghalu, represents the unflinching antithesis of Soludo’s political trajectory. With decades of administrative acumen, impeccable public service record, and demonstrated fidelity to the principles of people-first governance, Dr. Moghalu has emerged as the most credible, competent, and unifying figure in the 2025 race. His candidature received resounding validation through the public endorsement of Mr. Peter Obi himself—an endorsement laden with symbolism, historical relevance, and strategic significance.
Peter Obi, in his endorsement speech, extolled Moghalu’s leadership credentials and vision for Anambra, stating: “The candidature of Dr. George Moghalu is the best thing that has happened to Anambra State. I did well as governor. Moghalu will do better. Anambra must not miss this opportunity.” This powerful declaration is more than a ceremonial blessing—it is a clarion call to Ndi Anambra to uphold the legacy of good governance and to consolidate the gains of progressive politics within the state.
Moreover, Obi reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the Labour Party and its broader progressive alliance, which is now in strategic alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. His message is clear and forceful: Anambra must unite behind Dr. Moghalu not only to restore dignity and excellence in state governance but to fortify the Southeast’s political voice in the national discourse.
The implications of the 2025 gubernatorial outcome are therefore far-reaching. A victory for Dr. Moghalu will not only signal the restoration of political honor in Anambra but will strengthen Obi’s negotiating leverage within the evolving national coalition. With a Labour Party-led government in Anambra, Peter Obi will possess not just the moral backing of his home state, but the strategic clout necessary to influence the direction of national politics ahead of 2027. Conversely, if the people re-elect a governor who publicly undermines Obi and fraternizes with the very forces that oppose his political vision, it would mark a grievous reversal of the progress made since 2023.
This election, in essence, is a referendum on truth versus expediency, legacy versus betrayal, and vision versus opportunism. To reward Governor Soludo with a second term after his relentless and unprovoked attacks on Peter Obi would be tantamount to rewarding disloyalty, undermining progress, and handing over the reins of Anambra to a man whose political compass no longer aligns with the yearnings of his people.
On the contrary, electing Dr. George Moghalu represents the restoration of fidelity to shared ideals and the embrace of a brighter future anchored on integrity, economic transformation, social justice, and strategic alignment with a national movement that envisions a better Nigeria for all.
Dr. Moghalu’s vision for Anambra is not speculative—it is practical, pragmatic, and people-oriented. One of his cardinal priorities is the dismantling of the oppressive and chaotic revenue collection system that has held the state’s informal economy hostage. The tyranny of agbero (touts) and the barbaric culture of “Aka odo” (forceful levies) have crippled small businesses, demoralized traders, and stained the image of governance in Anambra. Under Dr. Moghalu, these anachronistic practices will be relegated to the dustbin of history.
Gone will be the days when market women are forced to part with their meager earnings under the pretext of government-sanctioned taxes. No longer shall transporters and traders be extorted by illegal agents operating under the protection of the state. Dr. Moghalu’s administration will establish a modern, humane, and technology-driven revenue architecture that empowers entrepreneurs and creates an enabling environment for economic prosperity across all sectors.
Anambra deserves a leader who listens, who understands the plight of the common man, and who has the administrative capacity and political will to deliver results. Dr. Moghalu embodies these virtues. His track record as the former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) is a testament to his competence, vision, and transparency. His strategic approach to public administration, stakeholder engagement, and infrastructural development remains exemplary.
This moment, therefore, is not just about electoral choice—it is a moral litmus test for Ndi Anambra. Shall we reward betrayal or affirm loyalty? Shall we elevate ego-driven politics or enshrine people-centric governance? Shall we lend credence to those who mock our icons or stand firm with those who honor them?
Let it be declared without equivocation: Ndi Anambra will not reward a man who insults Peter Obi. The people of Anambra must rise in unison and reject the politics of arrogance, condescension, and sabotage. Governor Soludo’s reelection bid must be seen for what it truly is—a continuation of anti-people governance, detached elitism, and political opportunism.
The path forward is clear and luminous. Ndi Anambra must rally behind Dr. George Moghalu—the candidate of conscience, competence, and compassion. It is time to return Anambra to the path of greatness, to rekindle the legacy of visionary governance, and to reaffirm the state’s place as the cradle of enlightened leadership in Nigeria.
A vote for Dr. George Moghalu is not merely a vote for the Labour Party; it is a vote for dignity, for loyalty to our values, for Peter Obi’s legacy, and for a future where governance is defined by empathy, responsibility, and transformative impact.
Anambra, let us rise and lead again.
