AON Imposes Lifetime No-Fly Ban on Ibom Passenger Over Assault

The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has imposed a lifetime no-fly ban on Comfort Emmanson, a female passenger who allegedly assaulted crew members on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.
In a statement on Monday, AON spokesperson Obiora Okonkwo confirmed the ban applies immediately and prohibits Emmanson from flying with any AON member airline, both within Nigeria and internationally.
The ban sends a clear message that anyone who exhibits such unruly behavior will face similar consequences.
AON condemned Emmanson’s actions, describing the incident as one of the most severe cases of passenger misconduct witnessed in 2025.
The group said, “This was not only disruptive but a sustained and violent attack that endangered the lives of crew, passengers, and the aircraft’s safety. Such behavior is unacceptable.”
The incident began when Emmanson refused to switch off her mobile phone despite repeated instructions from the flight crew.
After the pilot intervened with an announcement, a fellow passenger turned off the phone. However, upon arrival in Lagos, Emmanson confronted and violently attacked the flight purser.
She tore off the purser’s wig, removed her glasses, and assaulted her with footwear. She also slapped another crew member who tried to intervene.
Emmanson then attempted to use a fire extinguisher as a weapon, risking damage to the aircraft.
Security personnel from Ibom Air and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) intervened but also faced her violent outburst before she was restrained and removed from the plane.
Ibom Air placed a travel restriction on Emmanson, and she was later charged and remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre, Lagos.
AON praised Ibom Air for its swift and professional response and endorsed the lifetime ban.
The association also called on the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to review and tighten airport security procedures nationwide.
The ban follows other high-profile incidents of unruly behavior, including Nigerian musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1), who recently faced a six-month ban by the NCAA for disrupting a ValueJet flight, and Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who reportedly disrupted airport operations at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
AON reaffirmed its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against unruly passengers and urged passengers to follow due process when expressing grievances to ensure safety and order in Nigerian skies.
