A political storm is unfolding in Delta State over the defection of key Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to findings by Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) corespondents in Delta, the situation has sparked internal conflict within the APC due to unresolved resignation formalities by the defectors.

Loyalists of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa are at the center of the controversy.

Both men, previously top PDP figures, are believed to have influenced the wave of defections to the APC.

Their allies followed suit, signaling a major political shift in Delta State.

However, their transition has been anything but smooth.

Several APC ward leaders refused to register the new members.

The ward officials insisted on official resignation letters from the PDP as a precondition for acceptance.

This demand left many defectors stranded and politically uncertain.

Party insiders say the situation has slowed APC’s grassroots consolidation.

Local APC members worry that the defectors might undermine existing party structures.

Concerns have also been raised about the loyalty of the new entrants.

Some fear that the defectors might still maintain hidden ties with the PDP.

In response to the rising tension, APC state leadership intervened.

Valentine Onojeghuo, the party’s state publicity secretary, issued a directive to resolve the impasse.

He instructed all local and ward chairmen to register the defectors without requesting resignation proof.

Onojeghuo described the bureaucratic hurdles as counterproductive to party unity.

He urged leaders to prioritize inclusion and political expansion.

Despite his intervention, discontent lingers among core APC members.

Many remain skeptical about the sincerity of the former PDP members.

This skepticism has created a fragile alliance within the party.

Meanwhile, PDP loyalists who stayed behind are mobilizing.

They met over the weekend to strategize on rebuilding party strength.

The regrouping aims to counteract the losses and reinforce PDP’s relevance in the state.

The defections have clearly fractured both political camps.

Tension continues to rise as grassroots party members trade accusations and resist collaboration.

Political observers say the instability could impact future elections.

Analysts warn that without internal harmony, the APC may struggle to maintain dominance in Delta State.

The PDP, though weakened, sees the crisis as an opportunity for a comeback.

The unfolding events may reshape the political landscape ahead of 2027.

The power tussle between old and new party members is far from over.

Delta State now stands at a crucial political crossroads.
