Aregbesola’s Silence Fuels Speculation on ADC Defection
DDM News

Former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has not addressed speculation about his possible defection to the Action Democratic Congress (ADC).
Diaspora digital media (DDM) Reports suggest he is involved in a broader political movement that could reshape Nigeria’s opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
His media adviser, Sola Fasure, declined to confirm or deny the rumors surrounding Aregbesola’s potential political shift.
Fasure stated that discussions about Aregbesola’s political future would take place at the appropriate time.
Sources close to Aregbesola indicate he is part of a larger political realignment involving former ministers and APC officials.
This movement reportedly aims to form a strong opposition coalition that could challenge the ruling party in the next election.
An insider revealed that the movement extends beyond a single party and involves strategic alliances.
Smaller parties such as the SDP and ADC may serve as temporary platforms before merging into a larger political force.
“I cannot confirm whether we are joining the ADC, but there is an ongoing political movement,” the source stated.
He added that several former ministers and APC officials are actively participating in this realignment.
The movement is not tied to a single party but seeks to establish a broader coalition.
“Even if we join the SDP or ADC, it will only serve as a structural arrangement,” the insider explained.
“Eventually, these smaller parties will collapse into a larger opposition coalition,” he added.
Aregbesola’s political group, Omoluabi Progressives, previously left the APC due to internal disputes.
Members accused the party leadership of sidelining them and imposing suspensions.
They also claimed the APC neglected their contributions despite their dedication to the party.
Their departure highlighted internal conflicts within the ruling party and hinted at possible political realignments.
Aregbesola and some former Buhari administration officials are reportedly exploring new alliances.
This development reflects a broader shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Former APC officials are now considering alternative political structures to advance their agenda.
The ruling party faces increasing challenges in maintaining internal unity and cohesion.
If Aregbesola and his allies proceed with their coalition plans, the opposition could gain significant momentum.
This could reshape Nigeria’s political equation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
