Urban Radio station, operating in Enugu, has raised alarm how armed men that identified themselves as operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) barged into their studio, disrupted the program and abducted the presenters.

Urban Radio made the claim late Monday in a statement signed by its management.

According to the radio station, the armed men barged into the studio and interrupted a live program “Prime Time”.

They forcefully whisked away the presenters, as well as their communication equipment.

The intruders also vehemently refused to disclose their mission and to what intents.

“The Board and Management of Urban Radio 94.5 FM Enugu regrets the abrupt halting and disruption of our program at about 6.35 PM this Monday evening.

“Armed men identifying as the EFCC had barged into the studio and interrupted the live program ” Prime – Time”, forcefully abducted our presenters and took away our communication equipment for reasons they vehemently refused to disclose.

“Whilst we are following up with the matter, we will continue to inform our dear listeners accordingly through this medium.

“Once again, we apologize for the unethical break-in into our live studio and disruption of your favorite programs and hope that the matter will be resolved as soon as possible and for whatever the reasons.”

More details of the incident will follow as Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) investigates the cause of the attack and arrest.

In another development, some youths in Akure, the Ondo State capital, have protested against the invasion of some night clubs in the state by EFCC operatives.

The protesters, who kicked against the commando style in which the anti-graft agency invaded the clubs, stated that the destruction of facilities in the clubs was not necessary.

EFCC operatives stormed the popular Signatures and Alba Royale clubs at the weekend, where 127 suspected internet fraudsters were arrested, including a groom.

However, the Ibadan zonal office of the Commission, who confirmed the raid, disclosed that the arrested suspects were picked based on intelligence reports so far.

The protesting youths emphasised that the brutality meted on the suspects by EFCC operatives was absolutely wrong.

One of the protesters, Oluwaseun Ogunmola, who spoke with journalists, said that the raid by the EFCC was contrary with the agency’s ban on night operations.

Ogunmola demanded that those arrested and profiled as internet fraudsters in the Akure clubs be released unconditionally starting from the following day.

Another protester, Tobi Akinnubi, said: “In Nigeria now, youths cannot use phones or laptops; they can’t drive cars because the EFCC sees them as fraudsters.

“Our ladies have been taken away; have they committed any offenses? This is pure brutality.

“Enough is enough, and we must put an end to this mess,” he fumed.
