The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has reaffirmed his dedication to ending the lingering insecurity in the North Eastern region of Nigeria.
This commitment was made during his maiden visit to Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, in Maiduguri on Thursday, December 5, 2024.
Upon arrival, Lt. Gen. Oluyede was warmly received by Governor Zulum at the Council Chamber of the Borno State Government House.
The visit was aimed at uplifting the morale of officers and men of the Armed Forces fighting insurgency in the region.
Olufemi expressed his gratitude to the Governor for his unwavering support and provision of logistics and other resources to aid the ongoing fight against terrorism.
“Our soldiers are the champions of this war against insurgency and insecurity,” Lt. Gen. Oluyede declared.
“I believe that together, we can bring a final end to insecurity within the region. We cannot allow this fight to continue after lingering for so many years; it’s time to put an end to it”, he added.
In response, Governor Zulum, who also chairs the North East Governors Forum, urged the Army Chief to explore innovative strategies to end the protracted conflict in the region.
He noted that following the recent attack in Chad, many insurgents have migrated to Borno State, stressing the need to bring a swift end to the crisis.
“I appeal to you to boost the morale of your officers on the ground,” Governor Zulum said. “The primary objective of every government is to safeguard the lives and properties of its people, and we will not fail in our pursuit of peace.”
Lt. Gen. Oluyede assured the Governor of his commitment to working closely with the troops on the front lines and enhancing their welfare to ensure better service delivery.
However, this visit marks a significant milestone in the Army’s efforts to tackle insecurity in the North East.
