OWERRI, Nigeria — Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered the remains of a slain community leader, Chief Ibe Anyadu, from a shallow grave in Imo State, marking a major breakthrough in the investigation into his killing and ongoing efforts to tackle violent crime in the state.
The Army said the discovery was made during an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal hideouts believed to be used by armed groups operating within the area. Acting on credible information, troops searched the location and uncovered the shallow grave where the late community leader had been buried.
Military authorities explained that the operation formed part of intensified security efforts to dismantle criminal networks responsible for kidnappings, murders and other violent offences across Imo State.
