Oluremi Tinubu Hails Wike for Transforming Abuja City Gate

ABUJA, Nigeria — First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for transforming the Abuja City Gate into a modern recreational and tourism landmark, describing the project as a significant contribution to the beautification and development of Nigeria’s capital city.

Speaking during an inspection of the newly upgraded facility, the First Lady praised the FCT Administration for its commitment to improving public infrastructure and creating attractive spaces that enhance the image of Abuja. She noted that the transformation of the iconic City Gate reflects the government’s determination to provide world-class public facilities for residents and visitors.

Oluremi Tinubu said the redevelopment has turned the City Gate into more than just an entrance to the nation’s capital, describing it as a recreational destination capable of promoting tourism, leisure activities and economic opportunities. She expressed satisfaction with the quality of work carried out and encouraged the FCT Administration to sustain its efforts in delivering projects that improve the lives of citizens.

The First Lady also urged residents to take ownership of the facility by protecting it from vandalism and ensuring that it remains clean and well maintained. Responding, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike thanked the First Lady for her visit and support, stating that the project forms part of the administration’s broader plan to modernise Abuja and make it one of Africa’s leading capital cities. He said the City Gate redevelopment was designed to improve the aesthetic appeal of the area while creating a welcoming environment for visitors entering the Federal Capital Territory.

Wike explained that the FCT Administration remains committed to delivering projects that combine infrastructure development with environmental sustainability and recreational value. The minister reaffirmed his commitment to implementing President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through strategic infrastructure investments that promote economic growth and urban development. He assured residents that more people-oriented projects would be completed in the coming months.

Officials of the FCT Administration noted that the upgraded City Gate now features improved landscaping, modern lighting, enhanced walkways, water features and other facilities designed to create an attractive environment for relaxation and tourism. They expressed confidence that the project would become one of Abuja’s major recreational attractions.
