However, Arteta faces difficult decisions regarding Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, and Martin Zubimendi, who have only just returned to training following extended breaks. There had been concerns over Erling Haaland after he missed City’s final pre-season fixture against Atletico Madrid and part of Thursday’s training session. However, Maresca has confirmed that the Norway international is available for selection, though he could begin on the bench given his limited pre-season involvement following Norway’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals.
Omar Marmoush, who scored twice against Atletico Madrid, could therefore retain his place in the starting lineup, offering City a potent attacking alternative.
