(DDM) – Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has pledged to support whoever emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) confirmed that Atiku made the declaration while stressing the need for unity and collective strategy within the opposition bloc.

The former presidential candidate stated that his priority is not personal ambition but ensuring a strong and united front capable of challenging the ruling party.

He emphasised that internal cohesion remains critical if the ADC is to present a credible alternative to Nigerians.

According to Atiku, supporting the party’s eventual flagbearer would demonstrate political maturity and commitment to democratic principles.

His statement is being interpreted as a strategic move aimed at strengthening alliances and avoiding fragmentation within the opposition.

Political observers say the declaration could influence other key stakeholders to adopt a similar position, thereby reducing internal rivalry.

Analysts also note that Atiku’s endorsement carries significant weight given his long-standing presence in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The development comes amid ongoing realignments within opposition parties seeking to build momentum ahead of 2027.

Observers believe that a unified opposition ticket could significantly reshape the political contest and challenge existing power structures.

Atiku’s position is also seen as a signal that broader coalition talks may already be underway behind the scenes.

Some analysts suggest that the ADC is gradually emerging as a potential rallying platform for opposition forces.

However, questions remain about how the party will manage internal interests and competing ambitions among aspirants.
