August Meeting: Commissioner charges mothers on girl child’s rights

Christian mothers of Tree of Life Gospel Ministry held their annual August Meeting at the headquarters of the Church at Nanka Anambra State with the Commissioner of Women and Children Affairs in Anambra State, Hon. Ify Obinabo.

Speaking, Hon. Obinabo charged them on the rights of the girl child to be educated and to choose what she wants to do as occupation and career.

The Commissioner who was represented by Barr Chizoba Ezenwegbu a.k.a Ajia, told the mothers that it’s the right of the child to be educated up to secondary school level in the first instance.

She added that “every girl child has the right to decide if she wants to be a trader, a lawyer or medical doctor or an engineer or whatever and you have to allow make the choice because you have no right to impose occupation or career on your child”

The Commissioner also cautioned the mothers against maltreating and torturing a child living with them in the name of house help or house maid urging them to endeavor to treat any child living with them like their own biological children because the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs will not tolerate maltreatment and torturing of children by relations or guardians in the name of house help or house maid.

She noted that the Ministry is currently handling a case of torture from Awada where a women used blade razor to inflict severe injuries all over the body of a child living with her like a house help.

She added: “In fact the Ministry has abolished house help or house maid on the ground that you have the responsibility to treat anybody living with you like your biological child.

“You have to ensure that anybody living with you is feeding well and is going to school. There is nothing like house help or house maid”

In her response, the leader of the mothers Senior Deaconess Bridget Ezike thanked the Commissioner for making out time to come and participate in their meeting.

Ezike noted that her participation made the meeting very enriching to the participants in particular and to the Church in general.

She assured the Commissioner that the mothers are ready to queue into the programs of the Ministry and support Governor Soludo’s Liveable & Prosperous Homeland Agenda.

The Founder and General Overseer of the Church Bishop Jerry Dada Obi and his wife and Mother General of the Church Abuoma Jerry Obo along with prominent members of the Church and visiting guests witnessed the meeting.

Among them include former Commissioner for Women Affairs in Ebonyi State Processor Stella Inyiagha and Vice Chairman of the Church Council Dr Somto Inyiagha.

Others are Apostle Anugwelem and Women leader Nanka Patriotic Union Women Wing Mrs Ester Chinedu to mention bit a few. Read more.
