Barcelona Intensify Pursuit of Anthony Gordon as Newcastle Star Favours Camp Nou Move Over Bayern

Spanish giants FC Barcelona have reportedly stepped up efforts to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, with fresh reports indicating that the England international is strongly interested in a move to La Liga despite growing interest from Bayern Munich and Liverpool FC.

The 25 year old winger has emerged as one of the hottest names in the European transfer market following another impressive campaign in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League. Gordon’s performances have attracted attention from several elite clubs across Europe, but Barcelona are believed to be leading the race for his signature ahead of the summer transfer window.

Reports from Spain suggest that Barcelona sporting director Deco recently travelled to London as part of the Catalan club’s recruitment strategy for next season. While earlier speculation linked the visit to discussions surrounding Chelsea forward Joao Pedro, it has now been revealed that Gordon has become a major target for the Spanish side.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is said to be a strong admirer of Gordon’s versatility, pace, and work ethic. The German coach reportedly believes the Newcastle winger would fit perfectly into his tactical system as Barcelona continue their rebuilding process ahead of another title challenge in Spain and Europe.

Sources close to the negotiations claim that Gordon has already been impressed by the sporting project presented by Barcelona officials. The winger is reportedly open to adjusting his financial expectations in order to make the move possible, especially considering Barcelona’s ongoing financial restrictions and salary limitations.

Despite the growing optimism inside Camp Nou, completing the deal remains far from straightforward. Newcastle are under no immediate pressure to sell one of their key attacking players, especially as Gordon remains under a long term contract that runs until 2030. The Premier League side are believed to value the player at around £75 million, a figure Barcelona currently consider too high.

However, negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks as Barcelona search for creative solutions to reduce the overall transfer cost. Club officials are hopeful that Gordon’s desire to join the Spanish giants could eventually influence Newcastle’s stance during discussions.

Bayern Munich had also identified Gordon as one of their top attacking targets for the new season. The Bundesliga champions were reportedly exploring the possibility of a player plus cash offer that could have included goalkeeper Alexander Nubel as part of the package.

The German side view Gordon as an ideal addition to strengthen their attacking options following an inconsistent campaign in Europe. However, the player’s preference for Barcelona has reportedly weakened Bayern’s chances of completing the transfer.

Liverpool have also monitored the situation closely as the Merseyside club prepare for a new era after the departure of legendary forward Mohamed Salah. Gordon’s history with Everton had initially raised doubts over a potential move to Anfield, but his strong performances over the last two seasons reportedly convinced Liverpool’s recruitment team to consider him as a realistic option.

Even so, reports indicate that Gordon currently sees Barcelona as his preferred destination due to the opportunity to play under Flick and compete regularly for major European trophies.

One of Gordon’s biggest attractions for Barcelona is his tactical flexibility. Although he has spent most of the season operating on the left wing, he has also demonstrated the ability to play as a central striker and across multiple attacking positions. With veteran striker Robert Lewandowski expected to leave Barcelona soon, the club sees Gordon as a player capable of offering immediate attacking depth and long term stability.

The English winger enjoyed an excellent season with Newcastle, scoring 17 goals and registering five assists across all competitions. His performances in the UEFA Champions League particularly enhanced his reputation, as he consistently delivered against elite opposition on the European stage.

Barcelona’s recruitment team reportedly believe Gordon’s speed, direct style, pressing ability, and maturity make him one of the best available options in the transfer market. The club also values his age profile as they continue to build a younger squad capable of competing for future honours.

Should Barcelona successfully secure Gordon’s signature, the move could signal the end of their pursuit of other attacking targets, including Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid and Chelsea forward Joao Pedro.

As negotiations continue behind the scenes, Gordon’s future is expected to remain one of the biggest talking points of the summer transfer window, with Barcelona determined to strengthen their squad ahead of a crucial new campaign under Flick.
