The Bauchi State Government in Nigeria has responded to former Speaker Yakubu Dogara’s recent criticism of Governor Bala Mohammed, calling it an “opportunistic diatribe” and “hypocrisy.”

In a statement signed by Special Adviser Media & Publicity Mukhtar Gidado, the government accused Dogara of exploiting other people’s misfortune for personal benefit and abandoning his constituency.

Dogara had criticized Governor Mohammed for stating that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies were inflicting hardship on Nigerians.

However, the Bauchi State Government, in the statement made available to Diaspora Digital Media argued that Dogara was being dishonest and had previously praised the President.

“When Governor Bala Mohammed was in court after rigging himself into office and desperately needed BAT to save him, he was busy singing his praises to the highest heavens and telling the world how amazing PBAT was,” Gidado quoted Dogara as saying.

The government described Dogara’s statement as “a slur on the judiciary and the mindless vituperation of a self-seeking scoundrel.”

Gidado also highlighted Governor Mohammed’s achievements, including the construction and renovation of primary schools, provision of healthcare facilities, and empowerment programs for youths and women.

“Granted that the out-of-school children crisis is more pronounced in the north, under Bala Mohammed, the problem has been reduced from the 1.3 million at the inception of his administration to about 700, 000 presently,” Gidado said.

The government also quoted former President Muhammadu Buhari, who commended Governor Mohammed for his accomplishments, saying, “I am happy that the Bauchi state Government has executed the project creditably. I am not surprised by this accomplishment because the state government personally pursued the project with vigour and determination.”

The statement concluded that Dogara’s criticism was driven by his own political desperation and that he lacked the vision and foresight of Governor Mohammed.
