The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has hailed the commendable gallantry exhibited by the women and youths of Oporoma, headquarters of Southern Ijaw LGAs, Ekowe and Otuan communities.
The locals reportedly resolved to take their destiny in their hands by chasing away militants and forming a formidable vigilante groups to guide electoral materials till the entirety of the rerun.
The Director of Publicity, Restoration Campaign Organisation, Jonathan Obuebite, describes it as a commendable show of resistance.
He said, “This development we reliably gathered was the people’s resolve to ensure that nobody disenfranchise them from exercising their constitutional responsibilities.
At Otuan, an APC chieftain, Rufus Abadi met a resilient blockade by women and youth who chased away political thugs he had assembled in his compound to undermine the process.
“While efforts to thwart activities at Oporoma was equally resisted as women n youths in their hundreds chased the militants away, Ekowe community rose to the occasion by stopping another show of shame by a dreaded militant called Eris Paul, popularly known as General Ogunbos.”
Obuebite who was full of praise for the resistance, also called on other communities to emulate these gallantry and ensure that their vote contravenes during the rerun.
It was learnt that INEC was particularly happy with this development.
