Be guided by professionalism, Obiano urges online publishers

The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has charged online publishers to be guided by professionalism in their publications and New Media activities.

Speaking during the official launch of Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) at Protea Hotels, Ikoyi Lagos, Governor Obiano who was represented by his Executive Assistant on Social Media, Ifeanyi Aniagoh emphasised the importance of New Media noting that it holds a lot of job opportunities for the youths both Media practitioners and otherwise.

According to Obiano, “Social Media publishers should learn to play by the rule book, the potential of cyberspace is huge and it carries a lot of job opportunities for the youths… in Anambra state, Plans are in top gear to commence Social and Digital Media Education as a fundamental part of our Youth Development programme”.

Earlier in his speech, the president of OPAN, Olufemi Awoyemi explained that OPAN has come to standardise online media stating that the “first pillar of OPAN is to set a sustainable foundation”

All the speakers at the event took time to reiterate the need to shun libelous and malicious publications.

The formal launch had in attendance the governors, National Assembly members and Ministers well represented.

Also present were Nduka Obaigbena, publisher of Thisday, Dele Momodu of Ovation International among many other major players in online and offline media.
