A surge in the share prices of Seplat Energy Plc and Aradel Holdings Plc has added about $430 million to the value of Samuel Dossou-Aworet’s investments, lifting the Beninese billionaire’s combined holdings in the two Nigerian energy companies.
According to data by Billionaires Africa, the total market value of Dossou-Aworet’s stakes in Seplat Energy and Aradel Holdings rose from about $1.16 billion on July 1 to approximately $1.59 billion in the third quarter.
The increase highlights the strong impact that movements in Nigeria’s energy stocks can have on the fortunes of major investors with significant holdings in the sector.
Dossou-Aworet, a prominent investor in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, has substantial interests in both Seplat Energy and Aradel Holdings.
The rise in their respective share prices consequently increased the market value of his combined portfolio.
Seplat Energy and Aradel Holdings have remained important players in Nigeria’s energy market, with both companies benefiting from investor interest in the country’s oil and gas sector.
The latest increase in Dossou-Aworet’s portfolio also reflects the growing value attached to energy assets as investors continue to track production, expansion and investment opportunities across Nigeria’s petroleum industry.
While the $430 million increase represents a rise in the market value of his holdings rather than cash realised from selling the shares, it nevertheless underscores the scale of his exposure to Nigeria’s publicly traded energy companies.
The development places Dossou-Aworet among the major beneficiaries of the recent gains recorded by Seplat Energy and Aradel Holdings, as stronger share prices continue to reshape the fortunes of some of Africa’s wealthiest investors.
