Bill for establishment of Diaspora Investment Commission passes first reading

The bill seeking to establish the Akwa Ibom in Diaspora Investment Commission, AKIDICOM has been read for the first time on the floor of the State House of Assembly during its last Thursday plenary

The bill is sponsored by the member representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency, Hon. Jerry Otu along with twelve others.

The bill when passed, will amongst other things seek to encourage foreign and diaspora investment in the state’s economy as well as matters connected therewith

The speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Udeme Otong however referred the bill to the Committee on Business, Rules and Ethics for further legislative consideration.

 

About Akwa Ibom:

Akwa Ibom State is a state in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria, bordered on the east by Cross River State, on the west by Rivers State and Abia State, and on the south by the Atlantic Ocean.

The state takes its name from the Qua Iboe River which bisects the state before flowing into the Bight of Bonny.

Akwa Ibom was split from Cross River State in 1987 with her capital Uyo and with 31 local government areas.
