A night of horror unfolded in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, on Friday, July 25, 2025, as unknown assailants unleashed violence on innocent residents.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that what was initially reported as a vehicular accident has now been confirmed to be a brutal massacre carried out by unidentified gunmen.

The attack reportedly took place late Friday night in a populated part of Amichi, catching residents off guard and sending waves of panic across the region.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and terror as gunfire rang out, leaving many dead and several others critically injured.

The number of casualties remains unconfirmed, but local sources say the death toll is “staggering.”

In response to the tragedy, the John Chuma Nwosu Campaign Organization released a statement expressing deep sorrow and a firm demand for accountability.

“We are deeply heartbroken and disturbed by the tragic incident that occurred in Amichi… claiming the lives of many innocent citizens and leaving several others critically injured,” the statement read.

While offering condolences and prayers for the victims and their families, the campaign emphasized that mourning is not enough and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.

“We must demand truth and justice. We therefore call on the government and all relevant security agencies to immediately launch a full and transparent investigation into this horrifying tragedy to determine whether it was a tragic accident or a deliberate act of terror.”

They further insisted that the people of Nnewi South and Anambra at large deserve honest answers, and wherever the truth leads, there must be accountability and urgent preventive measures to stop a recurrence.

As of Saturday morning, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and security agencies have yet to issue an official briefing.

Residents are still gripped by fear, as patrols and roadblocks were reported across the local government area.

Community leaders have begun mobilizing support for affected families, while hospitals in the region have issued calls for blood donations.

This is not the first time Nnewi South has faced violent attacks.

The area has, in recent years, experienced a rise in criminal activities, including politically-motivated violence and cult-related clashes.

But Friday night’s massacre appears to be one of the bloodiest in recent memory.

Anambra State authorities are under growing pressure to restore confidence and assure residents of their safety.
