Bloody Bank Robbery Foiled in Abuja by Army, Police
A group of 15 armed robbers attacked a new generation bank in the Abaji area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Thursday, June 13.
The robbers, armed with dynamites, simultaneously attacked the Abaji Divisional Police Headquarters and First Bank PLC in Abaji.
However, their plans were foiled by a joint operation led by the Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, and the military.
The security forces mobilized to the scene and engaged the armed robbers in an intense gun duel, forcing them to flee with various degrees of bullet wounds.
Three suspects, identified as Usman (surname unknown), the gang leader, Nuhu Musa, 41, from Kogi State, and Muhammed Aminu, 25, from Abaji, were apprehended with grave degrees of bullet injuries. An irate mob set an unidentified suspect ablaze at the scene after he was neutralized by the security forces.
Unfortunately, one police operative and the gang leader were hit by bullets during the gun duel and were rushed to the hospital, where they were confirmed dead. Others are still receiving treatment.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, praised the effectiveness of the combined operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that FCT remains inhabitable for criminals. He noted that the safety of the residents of FCT is non-negotiable.
The police are still searching for fleeing suspects with bullet injuries, and the investigation is ongoing.
This incident demonstrates the bravery and dedication of the Nigerian Police Force and the military in combating crime and ensuring the safety of citizens. It also serves as a warning to criminals that the authorities will not tolerate such brazen acts of criminality.
