LAGOS, Nigeria — The Bank of Industry (BOI) has launched a ₦250 billion bond offer aimed at providing long-term financing for businesses operating in key sectors of the Nigerian economy, reinforcing efforts to expand access to capital and support sustainable economic growth.
The bond issuance is expected to mobilise funds for lending to enterprises across priority sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, renewable energy, technology, infrastructure and other industries considered critical to Nigeria’s economic development. The initiative forms part of the Bank’s strategy to strengthen industrialisation and improve access to affordable financing for businesses.
BOI said the proceeds from the bond offer will be used to support micro, small, medium and large-scale enterprises through long-term financing designed to promote productivity, job creation and value addition. The development finance institution noted that access to patient capital remains essential for businesses seeking to expand operations and invest in new projects.
According to the Bank, the bond programme is intended to deepen Nigeria’s capital market while providing institutional and retail investors with an opportunity to participate in financing national development. It added that the funds raised would contribute to economic diversification by supporting businesses capable of driving industrial growth and increasing local production.
The Bank of Industry emphasised that expanding access to finance remains a key component of its mandate to stimulate private sector investment and strengthen the competitiveness of Nigerian enterprises. It said the initiative aligns with broader national efforts to accelerate industrial development, reduce unemployment and encourage innovation across strategic sectors.
Financial analysts described the bond offer as a significant step towards addressing the financing challenges faced by businesses, particularly manufacturers and small enterprises that often struggle to secure long-term credit. They noted that development finance institutions continue to play an important role in bridging funding gaps and supporting productive investments.
The analysts also observed that increased access to long-term capital could enable businesses to modernise operations, improve productivity, expand production capacity and compete more effectively in domestic and international markets.
BOI reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s economic transformation through innovative financing solutions that promote entrepreneurship, industrialisation and inclusive growth. The Bank stated that partnerships with investors, financial institutions and development organisations remain central to achieving its development objectives.
The institution encouraged eligible investors to participate in the bond offer, expressing confidence that the funds raised would strengthen support for businesses across priority sectors while contributing to sustainable economic development, employment generation and increased private sector investment throughout Nigeria.
