ABUJA, Nigeria — The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reportedly cleared the Presidency of wrongdoing in its investigation into the alleged fake agency saga while recommending the prosecution of the embattled Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi.
According to the report, investigators found no evidence linking the Presidency to the establishment or operations of the alleged agency under investigation. The Commission concluded that allegations suggesting official involvement at the Presidency were not supported by the findings of its inquiry.
The report, however, recommended legal action against Adeniyi Adeyemi, alleging that sufficient grounds exist for prosecution in connection with the matter. Details of the specific offences were not immediately disclosed, but the recommendation forms part of the Commission’s conclusions following its investigation.
The ICPC stated that the investigation examined relevant documents, administrative procedures and testimonies from individuals connected with the case. The Commission said its findings were based on evidence gathered during the course of the inquiry and were intended to ensure accountability in the administration of public institutions.
The investigation followed public concerns over the activities of the alleged agency and questions surrounding its legal status and operations. The matter attracted significant attention, prompting calls for a comprehensive inquiry into those responsible for its establishment and management.
