On Saturday, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced it had thwarted a large attack in Yekaterinburg, Russia detaining four teenagers.
These teenagers had allegedly planned to detonate a bomb in a crowded area.
The FSB reported seizing components for a homemade explosive device and stated that investigators in the Sverdlovsk region had opened a criminal case.
The FSB did not name the four teenagers, who are Russian citizens born in 2007 and 2008.
The agency claimed those detained shared the ideas of a terrorist organization banned in Russia and planned to carry out a terrorist act using a homemade explosive device in places where many citizens of Yekaterinburg are present.
Additionally, the FSB revealed that the detained teenagers had participated in an arson attack on an interior ministry car.
The Interfax news agency reported that this arson attack had taken place on December 22, 2024.
The FSB’s swift action in detaining these individuals and seizing the explosive components has likely prevented a significant tragedy in Yekaterinburg.
The investigation into the planned attack and the arson incident continues, as authorities work to uncover further details and prevent any future threats.
