DDM – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu State has been thrown into deep shock following the sudden passing of Senator Okey Ezeah, the distinguished lawmaker representing Enugu North, whose death was confirmed early this morning.
The news was disclosed by the ADC Enugu North chairman, Hon. Prince Kingsley Acharabagu, during a telephone conversation with Diaspora Digital Media DDM, where he struggled through grief to explain how the party and the entire senatorial district had lost one of its most dependable pillars.
Acharabagu emotionally recounted that Senator Ezeah passed away in Germany, where he had been undergoing medical treatment for the past two months, adding that the news of his death felt like a heavy blow to everyone who knew the senator’s dedication to public service.
He lamented that a political colossus had fallen, stressing that the senator’s demise had created a deep vacuum in the hearts of constituents and party loyalists who had depended on his leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to the development of Enugu North.
The ADC zonal chairman described the senator as a “hero of the people,” noting that Ezeah had consistently championed the interests of the party while also ensuring that the broader needs of the state were met through strategic interventions, legislative engagements, and community-oriented initiatives.
According to Acharabagu, Senator Ezeah was not only an influential political figure but also a compassionate leader whose empathy for the masses shaped his approach to governance and constituency empowerment.
He recalled several instances where the senator personally pushed forward motions, community policies, and developmental frameworks that positively impacted Enugu North communities, particularly in areas of infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, and healthcare enhancement.
Background checks by DDM show that Senator Okey Ezeah had built a remarkable political legacy over the years, beginning from his early involvement in grassroots mobilisation to his rise as one of the most respected voices from Enugu North.
Before venturing into politics, he had established himself as a strong advocate for democratic participation, community development, and youth inclusion, values that later formed the backbone of his legislative priorities.
During his active years in the Senate, Senator Ezeah was widely recognised for his pragmatic leadership style, often bridging political divides to ensure that developmental projects were not stalled due to partisan differences.
His long-term relationship with the ADC further strengthened the party’s influence across Enugu State, especially in communities where he personally supervised empowerment schemes and constituency projects.
DDM gathered that his medical trip to Germany had raised concerns within party circles as the senator was known for his active engagement in community affairs, and his absence from recent political events triggered quiet anxiety among supporters.
The ADC leadership now faces the painful task of confronting the reality of his loss and preparing to honour his legacy while navigating the emotional impact on members and constituents.
As condolences continue to pour in from across the state, Enugu North is expected to host a series of memorial activities in honour of the late senator, whose life and service remain deeply engraved in the political history of the region.
The ADC Enugu State chapter has called for prayers, unity, and strength as they mourn a man many have described as a rare gift to politics, public service, and community development.
