Trump to Shut Down Long-Standing US-Canada Border Road

Share this:

The administration of Donald Trump has announced plans to close a nearly nine-mile stretch of road along the border between Montana and Alberta, starting from July 1.

The road, often called “Border Road,” has been used freely by people on both sides for more than 80 years, especially farmers and local residents who rely on it for easy access between communities.

US officials say the decision is due to growing concerns about illegal migration and drug smuggling in the area.

Although the road is located on the US side, it has been maintained by Canadian authorities in Alberta. In response to the closure, local officials in Canada have already set aside funds to build a new road for their residents.

The move has been described as unfortunate by local leaders, who say it will affect daily life for people living along the border. Some residents even depend on the road to access their homes.

Despite the change, officials believe relationships between communities on both sides will remain strong, even though the easy crossing will no longer be possible.

For many locals, the closure marks the end of a long-standing tradition of open and friendly movement across the border.
