Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has made a major move to reconcile with his political rival and former ally, Nyesom Wike.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) revealed that Fubara met with Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, in Abuja at the minister’s private residence.

This meeting is seen as part of renewed efforts to end the prolonged political crisis rocking Rivers State.

The reconciliation attempt comes at a time when the state has witnessed a deep rift between Fubara and his predecessor.

Political observers note that the conflict began shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023.

Despite Wike’s pivotal role in supporting Fubara’s emergence as governor, both men have been locked in a bitter power struggle for months.

Tensions rose when lawmakers loyal to Wike moved against Fubara, resulting in an attempt to impeach the governor.

The development threw the state into political disarray and divided the Rivers State House of Assembly.

In an effort to restore peace, Fubara recently travelled to London, where he met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Sources indicate that President Tinubu is backing the reconciliation process between the two Rivers leaders.

Following that international meeting, Fubara proceeded to Wike’s Abuja residence, signifying the seriousness of the peace effort.

Fubara was accompanied by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru.

Former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba was also present at the meeting.

Their presence suggests that the talks had federal support and were aimed at calming political tensions in Rivers.

A source close to the meeting revealed that Fubara walked into Wike’s house without hesitation.

The source said Fubara felt at home because Wike’s residence was “familiar terrain.”

Another insider gave a dramatic account of the meeting.

According to the source, Fubara went as far as prostrating for Wike, holding his feet and calling him “My Oga.”

The action, described by observers as one of humility, was likely aimed at softening Wike’s stance.

Though the exact content of the discussion was not revealed, insiders confirmed that the meeting did occur.

Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, also acknowledged the meeting but stated he was not informed of the details.

The political tension in Rivers has raised national concern due to the state’s importance in Nigeria’s oil economy.

Analysts say a peaceful resolution will not only stabilize Rivers State but also restore confidence in governance within the region.

The outcome of this meeting could determine the future of both men’s political careers and the stability of the state.

For now, the public awaits official updates from both camps as peace efforts continue.
