Massive explosions ripped through Doha on Monday evening, according to AFP journalists, shortly after Qatar closed its airspace, citing regional developments following U.S. air strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
The blasts occurred in central Doha and in Lusail north of the Qatari capital.
At the time of filing this report, Iran has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Iran said it attacked American forces stationed at Qatar’s Al Udeid air base.
The announcement was made on state television as martial music played, with a caption on the screen calling it “a mighty and successful response by the armed forces of Iran to America’s aggression”.
