BREAKING NEWS

An Air India aircraft scheduled to fly to the United Kingdom has reportedly crashed during takeoff at Ahmedabad airport in western India, on Thursday, June 12, 2025, according to online media souces close to Ahmedabad.

The flight was carrying over 100 passengers, based on information provided by various Indian media outlets.

The crash occurred shortly after the aircraft attempted to lift off from the runway, although the exact cause of the incident remains under investigation.

Eyewitness footage and videos circulating online depict a massive column of thick, black smoke rising from the crash site, suggesting a significant fire may have followed the impact.

Emergency response teams, including firefighters, airport rescue personnel, and local police, rushed to the scene to manage the situation and begin search and rescue efforts.

The Ahmedabad Police Commissioner, GS Malik, told the Press Trust of India (PTI) that the crash occurred in or near the Meghaninagar area, which is located close to the airport’s boundary.

“A plane crashed in the Meghaninagar area near the airport.

It is not yet clear what type of plane it was,” Malik said, indicating that authorities were still in the process of verifying key details about the aircraft and the circumstances of the crash.

Initial reports do not confirm the number of injuries or fatalities, and both local and national authorities are expected to provide official updates as more information becomes available.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Air India officials are likely to launch a full investigation into the cause of the crash, focusing on potential mechanical failure, human error, or weather-related issues.

This incident comes at a time when global air travel safety is under renewed scrutiny, particularly in regions experiencing rapid infrastructure development and high passenger volumes.

Air India, the country’s national carrier, has faced criticism and operational challenges in recent years, including concerns about aircraft maintenance and safety protocols.

Meanwhile, the airport has been temporarily closed to incoming and outgoing flights, and passenger services have been suspended.

This has caused delays and diversions of other flights scheduled to land at or depart from Ahmedabad.

Authorities have urged the public to stay away from the area while emergency crews continue their work.

Hospitals nearby have been placed on high alert, and disaster response units are reportedly being mobilized as a precautionary measure.

The identities of the passengers and crew on board have not yet been released, and there is no confirmation on whether any foreign nationals were among them.

Families of those potentially on the flight are being contacted, and support teams are being set up to provide assistance.

Further information is expected to be shared by Air India and Indian aviation authorities as they work to determine what led to this tragic incident.
