Some protesters in Kaduna State on Monday, seized an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) belonging to the Nigeria Police Force.
The Armoured Personnel Carrier was originally deployed by the Force to put rampaging protesters in the State on check as protests turns chaotic.
Recall that the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, which started on Thursday peacefully, turned violent after it was hijacked hoodlums.
Though, despite appeal by president Bola Tinubu during his nationwide broadcast on Sunday for it’s organizers to create room for dialogue, hundreds of protesters trooped to the streets to continue protests.
In a viral video sighted by Newsband Newspaper, some youths in Tudun Wada area of Kaduna South local government were seen, sitting all over the Armoured Tank and waving to a cheering crowd as the siren blared.
The APC reportedly belongs to the Mobile Police 1.
This medium gathered that the protesters did not gain access into the APC but rather mounted it while the police operatives inside maneuvered the vehicle to dislodge them.
When contacted, Mansur Hassan, the police spokesman in the state, noted that the APC had been safely returned.
He said, “The protesters did not take over our APC; they only mounted it. The policemen in the APC had to use tactical maneuvers to get them off to prevent any damage, and it was safely returned.”
Meanwhile, governor Uba Sani has declared a curfew in Kaduna metropolis and Zaria to douse the growing tension.
