Breaking: Top APC Governors Secretly Back Coalition to Unseat Tinubu
DDM News

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has made shocking revelations about secret alliances forming against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) reports that Lawal, once a close ally of the president, disclosed in an explosive interview on TVC News’ “Beyond The Headlines” that several sitting governors and top All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders are covertly working with an emerging opposition coalition.
The coalition, according to Lawal, includes influential political heavyweights like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi, as well as ex-ministers from the Buhari administration. It has reportedly adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform, although internal disagreements and legal challenges are already surfacing.
Lawal, who officially resigned from the APC on June 29, declared he had been disillusioned with the party for a long time.
“APC has never been united. The leadership bullies members into silence. Once you advise them, you’re marked as an enemy,” he said.
He asserted that many APC leaders are silently aligning with the new coalition, choosing either to keep a low profile or waiting for the right moment to defect.
“Many are with us, very, very many,” he emphasized.
Lawal also dismissed claims that the coalition is just a reactionary group formed by aggrieved politicians sidelined in Tinubu’s political maneuvers.
“This is not just an anti-Tinubu project. It’s a national rescue mission to replace a failing government with something better,” he declared.
Despite concerns about the involvement of familiar political figures who were part of previous failed administrations, Lawal said Tinubu’s government is worse, accusing it of worsening the country’s economic situation and democratic institutions.
“If Tinubu inherited bad policies, why hasn’t he fixed them? He has only deepened Nigeria’s problems,” he argued.
Lawal also lambasted the APC-led government for allegedly manipulating elections, intimidating voters, and controlling the judiciary. He said many governors remain with APC not out of loyalty, but to protect personal interests.
On the coalition’s internal structure, Lawal revealed that although he supports Peter Obi, others like Atiku and Amaechi have sizable influence. He added that all members have agreed to suspend personal ambitions for now.
“Peter Obi, Amaechi, and Atiku understand that no one can defeat this government alone,” he noted.
Lawal stressed that former President Muhammadu Buhari is not involved in the coalition.
“Buhari has nothing to do with the ADC. If he tries to join, I’ll personally ask him to leave,” he insisted.
While acknowledging the public’s skepticism about the recycled nature of Nigeria’s political class, Lawal maintained that the coalition represents a broad-based alliance aimed at genuine reform.
“This coalition includes people from different traditions, CPC, ACN, PDP, we’re uniting for Nigeria,” he said.
With rising political tension and shifting alliances, Lawal’s revelations signal the beginning of a fierce political battle ahead of 2027.
“I didn’t leave APC just to sit at home. I’m in this to win,” he concluded.
