Suspected bandits stormed Chacho village in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, abducting a bride-to-be, her bridesmaids, and eight other residents just hours before her wedding.
According to reports, the attack reportedly occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
All victims were women except for one man.
One person sustained injuries during the raid and is currently receiving hospital treatment.
A resident, speaking anonymously, described the incident as “devastating.” He said the wedding was supposed to take place later that morning but was abruptly halted due to the abductions.
“The girl’s wedding was meant to be today. She and her bridesmaids were taken,” the resident said. “Seven other women and one man were also abducted. We are appealing to the government to protect lives and property as promised in their oath of office.”
The resident also criticised the delayed response of security operatives, noting they arrived about an hour after the bandits had left.
DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the spokesman for the Sokoto State Police Command, confirmed the incident but said details were still sketchy.
Authorities are investigating the attack and searching for the abducted victims.
