President Muhammadu Buhari, it seems, has capitulated under immense pressure and condemnations and is now appointing Southeasterners in key federal government agencies.
The latest appointments come in the field of health and medicals.
The new appointees are:
1. Dr. Chikwe Andreas Ihekweazu – Centre for disease control (CDC)
2. Prof. Echezona Ezeanolue – National primary health care development agency (NPHCDA)

Other appointments are:
1. Dr. Sani Aliyu – National agency for the control of aids (NACA)
2. Prof. Usman Yusuf – National primary health care development agency and national health insurance scheme (NHIS), and,
3. Prof. Babatunde Salako – Nigerian institute for medical research (NIMR)
With this development, it could be said that President Buhari is gradually balancing the equation of lop-sided appointments.
However critics say these are belated appointments to relatively unknown posts having filled very important important and lucrative posts with his kinsmen from the north.
Elombah.com had reported that President Buhari last Tuesday approved the appointment of Elias Nwalem Mbam, an engineer as chairman for the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
The President also approved the appointment of Dr. (Mrs) Marilyn Amobi as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.
