“Buhari has been a monumental failure” – Junaid Mohammed

A foremost commentator on northern Nigerian affairs, Dr. Junaid Mohammed has described President Muhammadu Buhari as a monumental failure as president.

Dr. Mohammed was speaking in view of who will be the acceptable choice for northerners come the 2019 general elections.

Junaid, a fierce critic of Buhari, believes that if Buhari contests in 2019, he will be defeated, except if he rigs the election.

He said: “Although I have not heard of plans to replace him and field another northerner in 2019, I will not be surprised if this happens.

“President Buhari has been a monumental failure and the north shouldn’t support him in 2019 if it wants to retain power.

“Anti-corruption has always been the hallmark of northerners in government, but this government is the most corrupt in the history of Nigeria.

“All northern leaders, from Tarka to Aminu Kano and Sardauna, are not nepotistic, but the Buhari administration is the most nepotistic that has ever been since independence.

“So, the north is justified culturally, politically and morally to replace Buhari in 2019 if it chooses to do so.

The north has been categorical when it wants power, it also didn’t hesitate when to let it go. And when it wanted it back, it said so categorically.

“Now, it must show clearly that it wants to retain power by replacing Buhari.”

He concludes by saying that “If Buhari decides to contest in 2019, he will be defeated, except if he rigs the election and there will be violence which may lead to the break-up of Nigeria.”

In another development, it has been uncovered that five senators and 40 Members representing Nigerian at the Nation al Assembly have only O’level Certificates as their qualification.

Among the pack, the All Progressives Congress [APC] has 28 of its members with such qualifications.

The Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] has 21 members in such category.

Out of the pack North-Central, North-East, North-West have the most O’level holders.

It could be recalled that President Buhari is yet to present his WASSCE certificate as confirmation that he completed his secondary school education.

Rather, he hired 13 Senior Advocates of Nigeria to represent him in court when a lawyer challenged him to present his result.

According to one political observer, “Now you see why 2019 must be different.”
