BURIED ALIVE: 10 dead, 15 injured in Colombia landslide horror

A deadly landslide struck the municipality of Bello, in Antioquia Province, leaving at least 10 people dead and 15 others injured, according to Governor Andres Julian Rendon.

The tragedy occurred on Tuesday following several days of intense rainfall, which loosened unstable soil on a hillside near a residential area.

The resulting landslide buried homes and blocked access roads, triggering a full-scale emergency response.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Governor Rendon confirmed that search and rescue teams are on the ground.

He said operations are ongoing as authorities work to locate additional victims possibly trapped under debris.

“Our emergency crews are doing everything possible to find survivors. It’s a painful moment for Antioquia,” he wrote.

Local officials say the affected zone includes several informal settlements, where poor infrastructure increases vulnerability to natural disasters.

Rescue workers, supported by volunteers, are using heavy machinery and sniffer dogs to comb through the rubble.

The injured survivors have been transported to nearby hospitals. Some remain in critical condition, according to local health authorities.

Meteorological services warn that further landslides are possible, as heavy rains continue to fall across northwestern Colombia.

Authorities have urged residents in high-risk zones to evacuate as a precaution.

Colombia’s national disaster agency is coordinating relief efforts with local governments.

President Gustavo Petro expressed condolences and pledged federal support for victims and their families.
