The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has been working closely with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and local stakeholders to host the second leg of the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup Final at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar Es Salaam on May 25, 2025.

This effort aligns with CAF’s recent policy shift, initiated under President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s leadership, emphasizing collaboration and support for member associations.

The goal is to ensure every club and national team in CAF’s 54 member countries can host matches in local stadiums that meet CAF standards—aiming to bolster the development, growth, and financial independence of football across Africa.

CAF expresses gratitude to TFF President Wallace Karia, the Tanzania Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, and all involved for engaging discussions and efforts to prepare Benjamin Mkapa Stadium for the big occasion.

However, after a thorough assessment by an independent stadium evaluation company, the stadium was found unable to meet the required standards in time. The necessary repairs and upgrades could not be completed before the scheduled final.

As a result, CAF announced that the second-leg final will now be hosted at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.

CAF remains committed to working with Tanzanian authorities and stakeholders to ensure that future events, including the upcoming TotalEnergies African Nations Championship hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda starting August 2, 2025, meet all CAF regulations and standards.

CAF’s goal is to deliver successful tournaments and continue fostering the development of football infrastructure across the continent.
