There is growing support for the return of Emeka Ihedioha as Imo State governor in 2027.

Despite resigning from the PDP in 2024, Ihedioha still enjoys massive grassroots backing across all 27 LGAs of the state, Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathers.

The Rebuild Imo Movement (RIM), which he founded, remains active and influential in Imo’s political landscape.

Speculations state that  RIM is more popular than the ruling APC across local communities in Imo.

Ugwumba Damien Ezeagu, convener of Imo Critical Stakeholders, said people rally behind Ihedioha despite his lack of party affiliation.

He described Ihedioha as a symbol of integrity, honour, and character who has earned loyalty without financial inducement.

Ezeagu noted that Ihedioha’s clean record in public service sets him apart in today’s political environment.

RIM’s Women Leader for Owerri Zone, Lolo Getrude Iroeme, emphasized his consistency in values over the years.

She said Ihedioha’s messages on democracy and rule of law have remained unchanged since his 2003 campaigns.

According to her, this consistency proves that Ihedioha is not just a politician but a man of principle.

Sir Stanley Ekezie from Okigwe Zone praised Ihedioha’s leadership during his seven-month tenure as governor.

He described Ihedioha as a strategic thinker whose policies addressed both immediate needs and future challenges.

Under Ihedioha, Imo reportedly became Nigeria’s least corrupt and fastest-growing economy within months.

His administration regularly paid salaries and pensions, boosting public trust in government.

Technology adoption and infrastructure projects flourished under his leadership, redefining governance in the state.

He launched road projects across all LGAs, covering over 308 kilometers and improving rural access.

His local government reforms turned LGAs into engines of development, with new stadiums and administrative buildings.

Ihedioha released N500 million as counterpart funding for a N13.5 billion World Bank infrastructure grant.

His government improved the ease of doing business and revived the Imo State Investment Promotion Agency (ISIPA).

He secured an N18 billion Quality Assurance Facility from AfriExim Bank to support development goals.

The state’s IGR rose from N250 million to over N850 million in just five months.

Ihedioha implemented the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to enhance transparency in financial management.

He upgraded four technical colleges and recruited 4,000 teachers to revitalize public education.

His administration strengthened health care delivery, boosted agriculture, and maintained relative peace and security.

Former critics now compare him to legendary Imo leaders like Ndubuisi Kanu and Sam Mbakwe.

Analysts say his brief time in office restored public faith in governance and democratic institutions.

Many believe his return in 2027 could mark a new beginning for Imo’s future.
