Canada has announced an additional air-defence support package for Ukraine during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to Ottawa on Thursday.
Zelenskyy disclosed the new support during talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, expressing appreciation for the assistance.
“I’m so thankful. This is very important package of air defence and this is crucial,” the Ukrainian President said.
Carney said Canada had provided about CAN$26 billion, equivalent to US$19 billion, in support for Ukraine since Russia’s invasion.
“We’ve provided support for the energy systems and beyond. We’ll provide more support,” Carney said.
The Canadian Prime Minister did not disclose the value or specific details of the latest air-defence package.
Ukraine has repeatedly appealed for stronger air-defence systems as Russia intensifies missile attacks, particularly against civilian areas and critical infrastructure.
The latest assistance comes as Kyiv continues to seek additional military support from international allies to strengthen its defences and protect civilians and key infrastructure.
