Canada has announced plans to attract skilled healthcare and social service professionals from Nigeria and other countries to help address shortages in its healthcare system.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) said it is seeking nurse practitioners, dentists, pharmacists, psychologists and social workers, among other skilled professionals.
The agency encouraged qualified foreign nationals with the required training, credentials and work experience to explore Canada’s immigration pathways.
Canada said it is also seeking skilled workers in areas including science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), skilled trades, defence and cybersecurity, critical minerals and education to meet its growing economic needs.
According to the IRCC, international professionals who move to Canada can benefit from career opportunities with various employers, safe and stable communities, education and training opportunities, and support services for French-speaking newcomers.
The announcement comes as Canada continues efforts to attract skilled international workers to address labour shortages and support its healthcare system and other critical sectors.
