Candle Night Tribute held for Nigerian monarch, Oba Adefunmi II, stabbed to death by sister in US
A solemn candle night tribute will hold on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in Nigeria in honour of His Imperial Majesty Oba Adejuyigbe Adefunmi II.
The departed royal father, who aged 47, was fatally stabbed to death by his biological sister, one Akiba Kasale Meredith, 53, during a reported heated argument.
He was the King of Oyotunji African Village in Beaufort County, South Carolina, United States of America.
According to information made available to Diaspora Digital Media, the candle light procession will take place at the front of Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria.
The program, organized in association with the Oyo Tunji Africa Kingdom, will bring together friends, family, and well-wishers to pay their respects to the late traditional ruler.
Oba Adejuyigbe Adefunmi II, according to a family statement, was a gentle soul.
According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, the stabbing occurred on Monday at around 2:45 p.m. at the village, located on Bryant Lane.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Meredith, who had fled the scene on foot, was later found and charged with murder.
She is currently being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing.
